Steps to Complete

Step 1

Toast the slivered almonds in preheated 350 degree F oven for 15 minutes or until golden. Set aside and allow to cool.

Step 2

Line a separate baking sheet with wax paper (for dipped cookies).

Step 3

Microwave chocolate and shortening in medium, microwave-safe, uncoveredbowl on medium power for 1 minute; stir gently. Continue to microwave at additional 10 to 15 second intervals, until melted.

Step 4

Dip or spoon the chocolate over the cookies, allow access chocolate to drip, then place on prepared baking sheet; add desired toppings; refrigerate until set for about 15 minutes.

Step 5

*Optional – add some of the warm dipping chocolate to a piping bag and drizzle over the nut and coconut topping for added security and visual appeal.

NOTE: Pretzels, dried fruit, pound cake, cookies or bite-sized fresh fruit can also be used. Fruit must be patted dry for chocolate to adhere.
